Mataburro is the small Roussillon estate of Laurent Roger and Mélissa Ingrand, established in 2017 around old family vineyards near Rivesaltes. Their wines are made without additions, fining or filtration, with an emphasis on freshness, gentle extraction and the natural character of their Mediterranean vineyards.

Idoine is their wonderfully unconventional interpretation of Merlot, sourced from 30 year old vines planted by Laurent's father on the heavy clay soils of Rivesaltes. Careful pruning and rigorous spring disbudding help bring greater maturity and concentration to the fruit.

Whole bunches undergo a brief maceration before ageing in fibreglass tanks and barrels. The result is a beautifully juicy Merlot with genuine structure, freshness and an unexpectedly light touch.

Laurent affectionately calls it "our Gamay", which gives a good indication of its personality. A vibrant, highly drinkable red that challenges almost everything you might expect from Merlot.
