Mosse Le Rouchefer 2022 Chenin Blanc Loire Valley
Mosse Le Rouchefer 2022 is a single-vineyard Chenin Blanc from Anjou in the Loire Valley, drawn from one of the domaine's most expressive limestone and schist parcels. This is a wine built on site expression rather than winemaking imprint, staying true to the Mosse family's low-intervention approach.
In the vineyard, farming is organic and biodynamic in philosophy, with old Chenin vines rooted deep in mineral-rich soils that bring natural tension and salinity to the wine. In the cellar, fruit is handled with minimal disruption: native yeast fermentation, little to no fining or filtration, and élevage in older barrels and neutral vessels to preserve detail rather than add weight.
The 2022 vintage delivered a warm but balanced growing season in the Loire, giving a slightly riper fruit profile while retaining the cut that defines great Chenin. The nose opens with ripe citrus, quince, and yellow apple, layered with subtle floral notes and a faint waxy, honeyed undertone. On the palate it is linear and tightly coiled, driven by chalky acidity and a saline, almost smoky mineral backbone. There is concentration, but it never turns heavy — everything pulls into a clean, extended finish.
This is Chenin at the more serious, structural end of the Mosse range. It drinks well now with air, but really starts to show its full dimension with a few years of bottle age, where texture and complexity take over from primary fruit.
