Sorrenberg is one of Australia’s great small estates, a benchmark producer from the elevated, granitic landscapes of Beechworth. Farmed biodynamically and produced with remarkable attention to detail, the wines have developed a devoted following for their elegance, individuality and ability to age.

The 2024 Cabernet Blend is a classical Bordeaux-inspired wine led by 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 20% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot, while the remaining 10% is made up of small amounts of Petit Verdot, Malbec and Carménère. Each variety plays an important role: Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and cassis-driven intensity, Cabernet Franc brings perfume and savoury complexity, and Merlot adds generosity and softness through the palate. The smaller components add further colour, spice and complexity.

The 2024 growing season began with a wet and cool start to summer before the rain stopped in early February and a prolonged dry spell accelerated ripening. Harvest came around two weeks earlier than average, with healthy crop levels and excellent fruit quality. The warmer conditions allowed the Bordeaux varieties to achieve excellent ripeness while retaining the freshness and elegance that define Sorrenberg's Beechworth wines.

The fruit was naturally fermented and spent four weeks on skins before the wine was matured for 24 months in French oak. It was bottled without fining or filtration, preserving the wine's natural character and detail.

Blackcurrant and blackberry sit at the heart of the wine, accompanied by subtle notes of white pepper, spice and savoury complexity. The palate is generous yet beautifully balanced, with a rich mouthfeel and exceptionally fine, silky tannins. This is a Cabernet blend with genuine depth and structure, but Sorrenberg's signature elegance ensures it never feels heavy.

A beautiful expression of Beechworth and one of Australia's most distinctive Bordeaux-style blends. Drinking wonderfully now with some air, but built to evolve gracefully in the cellar for many years.
