Sorrenberg Chardonnay 2025
Sorrenberg is one of Australia's most remarkable small vineyards, established by Barry and Jan Morey in the hills outside Beechworth in 1984. Their three-hectare estate sits at around 560 metres above sea level on ancient granite soils, surrounded by forest and farmed biodynamically. For decades, Barry has quietly produced some of Australia's most distinctive wines, with Chardonnay and Gamay earning Sorrenberg an almost cult following.
The Chardonnay is a beautiful expression of the estate's old vines and traditional winemaking. Fermented with indigenous yeasts in French oak, with extended time on lees and full malolactic fermentation, it has the richness and complexity that have made Sorrenberg Chardonnay so sought after, balanced by the natural freshness of this elevated Beechworth vineyard.
White peach, ripe nectarine, citrus and subtle toasted nuts meet a beautifully textured palate, with integrated oak, mineral tension and a long, persistent finish. Generous yet wonderfully composed, this is Chardonnay with depth, character and the structure to develop beautifully in the cellar.
One of the great names of Australian Chardonnay, produced in very small quantities and always worth seeking out.
