Table Wines 'Grape Sweat' Macabeo 2025
Table Wines is a small South Australian wine project built around a refreshingly simple idea: making interesting, delicious wines that are meant to be opened, shared and enjoyed. There's a playful spirit behind the project, from the distinctive labels to the uncomplicated, drink-first philosophy. These are wines that don't take themselves too seriously, although plenty of thought goes into making them.
Grape Sweat has become something of an accidental cult favourite, and it's easy to understand why. Made from organically grown Macabeo sourced from Basshams Vineyard in Barmera, in South Australia's Riverland, it celebrates a Mediterranean variety that deserves far more attention in Australia.
The 2025 spends a couple of days on skins, just enough to introduce a lovely texture and a little extra character without losing its freshness. Bright grapefruit, lemon sherbet, juicy pear and a touch of green apple meet a delicate saline edge. The palate is soft, juicy and lightly textural, with a refreshing citrus finish that makes it dangerously easy to drink.
Only 222 dozen produced. A wonderfully fun, slightly unconventional white with plenty of personality, a brilliant label and serious summer-drinking potential. Best served cold, preferably with good company and absolutely no occasion required.
