Tentenublo Tinto is a blend of 60% Tempranillo, 30% Garnacha and 10% Viura, drawn from small plots sharing a common iron-rich red sandstone base. That soil gives the wine a more refined tannin profile and adds a distinctive ferrous, iodine note that runs through the fruit. Long elevage in porous concrete and neutral oak preserves the freshness and Atlantic character that defines everything Roberto Olivan makes in Viñaspre.

Tentenublo is the project of Roberto Olivan, a fourth-generation vigneron from Viñaspre in Rioja Alavesa. The village sits beneath one of the three corridors through the Sierra Cantabria, where cold Atlantic winds funnel down into Rioja, making Roberto's sites some of the coldest and most wind-swept in the appellation. The result is wine of high natural acidity, real longevity and a mountainous, tensile character that sets Viñaspre apart from the broader Rioja Alavesa style.

Roberto farms 15 hectares across around 40 small parcels, all certified organic. His wines include considerable quantities of white grapes, a traditional practice in the village that accentuates freshness and reflects the viticulture his grandfather and great-grandfather knew. He uses neutral vessels throughout, preferring porous concrete and Hungarian, Austrian or French oak over the American oak and constant racking associated with classic Rioja.
