The TMV Chardonnay 2024 from Two Tonne Tasmania offers a detailed snapshot of the Tamar Valley, shaped by the thoughtful site selection and intuitive winemaking of Ricky Evans. The majority of the fruit comes from the Woodlawn Park vineyard in Swan Bay, a breezy, free-draining site delivering purity and intensity, supported by smaller parcels from carefully chosen Tamar Valley vineyards to build complexity and regional breadth.

Harvested over multiple passes to capture both freshness and generosity, the fruit was fermented in seasoned oak puncheons with a portion in foudre. A small component was held in tank on lees, while the balance remained in oak with gentle lees stirring and partial malolactic fermentation. Ten months of maturation has brought cohesion and texture without compromising the wine’s natural energy and drive.

The style strikes a fine balance between vibrancy and weight. Ripe white peach, nectarine and citrus lead the way, layered with subtle notes of almond, spice and a saline edge that speaks clearly of its maritime origins. There is a gentle textural grip through the palate—reminiscent of grapefruit pith—framing a core that is tight, mineral and persistent, finishing with a bright, briny line of acidity.

Characters of white peach, nectarine and citrus fruits with hints of spiced oatmeal, almond paste, sea spray, apple turnover, white flowers and stone. There's a light textural component – like grapefruit pith – gently making its presence felt, and the palate is tight and stony with a long draw of flavour and a bright, briny acid line that drives things along very nicely indeed.
